Today, Dr. Haval Abubaker, the governor of Slemani participated in a commemorative ceremony organized by the Civil Development Organization (CDO) to mark the 76th anniversary of the passing of the legendary Kurdish intellectual and poet, Piramerd (1867–1950). In a keynote speech, Dr. Haval honored the immense legacy, social dignity, and invaluable literary contributions of this immortal figure, whose work remains a cornerstone of Kurdish national identity. Tawfeeq Mahmoud Hamza( Piramerd ) was a visionary polymath and social reformer who revolutionized Kurdish media as a pioneer of modern journalism through his newspaper Jiyan. He is most celebrated for his pivotal role in reviving the public celebration of Newroz and authoring its iconic anthem, as well as for his lifelong dedication to simplifying the Kurdish language to ensure that literature and education were accessible to the common people.
