International Translation Day reminds us how words travel beyond borders.
This week, Slemani UNESCO City of Literature is joining hands with 13 other Cities of Literature to share poetry each day in three forms: the poet’s original language, English, and Kurdish.
Through this exchange, we celebrate not only literature itself, but also the bridges that translation builds between cultures and communities.

凤凰台上风凰游，凤去台空江自流。

吴宫花草埋幽径，晋代衣冠成古丘。

三山半落青天外，二水中分白鹭洲。

总为浮云能蔽日，长安不见使人愁。

Ascending Phoenix Terrace inNanjing

The phoenix are at play on their terrace.

The phoenix are gone, the river flows on alone. Flowers and grass

Cover over the dark path

where lay the dynastic house of the Go.

The bright cloths and bright caps of Shin Are no the base of old hills.

The Three Mountains fall through the far heaven, 

The isle of White Heron splits 

the two streams apart.

Now the high clouds cover the sun 

And I can not see Chang’an afar 

And I am sad.

Kurdish translation:

بانیژەی قەقنەسە دابەزییوەکان لە نانجین شیعری (لی پۆ) لە شاری ئەدەبیی نانجین – چین   قەقنەسەکان لە سەر بانیژەکەیان لە نمایشدان قەقنەسەکان ڕۆشتوون، ڕووبارەکەش بە تەنها ڕێدەکات. گوڵان و گیا ڕێگا تاریکەکەیان دادەپۆشن کە ماڵی ماڵباتی دەسەڵاتدارانی (گۆ) ی لێیە پۆشاکی پڕڕەونەق و کڵاوی ڕەونەقداری (شین) ئێستا بناغەی گردە پیرەکانن. سێ چیاکە ڕۆچوون بەنێو ئاسمانە دوورەکەدا، دورگەی شینەشاهۆی سپی، دوو جۆگەلەکە لێک جیا دەکاتەوە. ئێستا ھەورە بەرزەکان خۆر دادەپۆشن و   ناتوانم لە دوورەوە (چانگئان) ببینم،  و منیش دڵتەنگم.
