The Sherko Bekas Museum is a significant cultural and literary center in Slemani, officially opened in a ceremony on September 20, 2025. The museum is housed in the three-story residence where the great Kurdish poet, Sherko Bekas, lived. The opening of this museum was a long-held dream of the poet himself to preserve his history and works. The museum has become a destination for writers and literature enthusiasts from all parts of Kurdistan. A large collection of the poet’s personal belongings is preserved there, including his famous typewriter, pens, original manuscripts, and his private library.

The museum is designed to reflect the atmosphere in which Sherko wrote his literary masterpieces—those poems that expressed the pains and aspirations of the Kurdish nation.
