The Zheen Center for Documentation and Research is a non-governmental archival center, established in 2004 in the city of Slemani, dedicated to the collection, preservation, organization, and revitalization of documentary heritage, manuscripts, journalism, and books related to Kurds and Kurdistan, as well as the recording of Kurdish oral history. It works to build a collective “Kurdistani memory” for all ethnic and religious components of Kurdish society by digitizing materials and establishing an electronic archive and database, while also striving toward the establishment of specialized national institutions for document preservation and a National Library in the Kurdistan Region.
