Wonju City of Literature (South Korea) is pleased to announce its 2026 International Residency Program. This opportunity offers one writer from the UNESCO Cities of Literature network the chance to stay at the prestigious Toji Cultural Centre for eight weeks.
This residency is designed to promote international friendship and cultural understanding through the power of literature.
Residency Details

- Location: Toji Cultural Centre, Wonju, South Korea

What is Provided?
- Travel: Round-trip airfare provided.
- Transportation: Local transport on arrival and departure dates.
- Accommodation: A private writing room at the Toji Cultural Centre.
- Meals: Daily organic meals provided at the center.
- Cultural Engagement: Opportunities to join Wonju’s cultural scene and participate in events like the “Wonju Literature Month Festival.”
Selection Criteria
To be eligible, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Language: Upper-intermediate level proficiency in English or Korean.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of creative writing experience.
- Publication: At least one work published in English or Korean (or a published translation).
- Participation: A willingness to participate in local literary festivals, meetings, and interviews in Korea.
- Output: The writer is required to produce a short creative work (essay or poem) on the theme of Wonju or Korea by the 6th week of the residency.
