The Sardam Golden Award has been presented to writer and translator Dr. Muhammad Kamal.
Dr. Muhammad Kamal is a distinguished Kurdish philosopher, writer, and translator who was recently honored with the Sardam Golden Award for his monumental contributions to Kurdish intellectual life. Born in Kirkuk and holding a PhD in philosophy, he has spent decades as a prominent academic and researcher at the University of Melbourne in Australia. His life’s work is centered on a unique mission: “teaching the Kurdish language to speak philosophy.” He achieved this by translating the complex masterpieces of world-renowned thinkers like Plato, Aristotle, Hegel, and Heidegger into Kurdish for the first time, while also authoring dozens of original books that simplify deep philosophical concepts for everyday readers. By proving that the Kurdish language is fully capable of expressing the most profound human thoughts, Dr. Kamal has become a symbol of intellectual pride, a legacy honored today by both awards and a dedicated statue in the city of Slemani.
