Exeter City of Literature is proud to announce an inaugural residency program for writers from UNESCO Cities of Literature. This unique opportunity offers space and support for three writers to develop their practice in the inspiring setting of Greenway (the former holiday home of Agatha Christie) and the historic city of Exeter.
Dates: 25th September – 16th October 2026
Locations: Greenway (2 weeks) & Exeter (1 week)
What is Offered:
- 2 weeks of private accommodation at Greenway with workspace, shared kitchen, and lounge.
- 1 week of accommodation in Exeter.
- Return airfare from your home city.
- Local travel between residency locations.
- A dedicated writing space at the Devon and Exeter Institution.
- A program of activities to connect with the local literary community.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Connection: Must live/work in or have a strong connection to a UNESCO City of Literature outside of the UK.
- Publication:
- If English is your native language: At least 3 published books.
- If non-native English: At least 1 book in English (original or translation) and 2+ books in your native language.
- Genres: Fiction (including poetry), Nature Writing, or Children’s Literature.
- Language: Must be proficient in English.
- Independence: Applicants must be self-sufficient (comfortable with independent travel and self-catering in a rural setting).
