Poetry is a powerful act of resistance, resilience and cultural revival. PEN International’s 5th Video Poem Marathon now features over 260 poems in 160 languages, including Kurdish. This year, more than 50 new video poems were published, including first-time entries from Wayuu, Miskito, Tsotsil, Duruma, Bubi, Sakha, Breton, and Kashubian.
Every poem in a minoritised language is a defiance against erasure and a bridge to the future. From Siberia to Australia, South Africa to Mexico, and the Sahara to the Baltic, these voices remind us that the world’s colors are far richer than we imagine. These poems gain visibility when poets, communities, and supporters share them widely. Help us spread the word, invite others to participate, and give these languages and the Pen Marathon the recognition they deserve. Let’s amplify them together.
