A major cultural event titled “The Mahwi Symposium” is set to take place in Slemani this week to celebrate the life and work of the legendary Kurdish poet, Mahwi.

Organized by the Barzja Organization, the event will be held on February 15 and 16, 2026, at the Talary Hwnar. The program begins each day at 2:00 PM.

The two-day schedule includes:

• Scientific Panels: Discussions by scholars on Mahwi’s poetry and philosophy.
• Art & Film: A documentary about the poet’s life and traditional Kurdish “Maqam” music performances.
• Poetry Readings: Live recitals of Mahwi’s most famous works by well-known voices.

The event is organized under the theme “And the Mystery of the Universe,” reflecting the deep spiritual and philosophical nature of Mahwi’s writing.

The organizers have announced that attendance is open to the public, inviting everyone to join in celebrating one of the most important figures in Kurdish literary history.
