Word Kitchen, in partnership with Exeter’s designation as a UNESCO City of Literature, is pleased to announce the opening of submissions for the annual Exeter Novel Prize.
Following an exceptional response of over 700 submissions in the previous cycle, Word Kitchen invites writers from across the globe to submit their work and gain international recognition within the literary community.
Eligibility Criteria
- Language: Entries must be written in English.
- Geographic Eligibility: Open to writers worldwide, regardless of nationality or country of residence.
- Representation: Entrants must not be represented by a literary agent at the time of the closing date (previously published authors are welcome to submit, provided they remain unagented).
Submission Guidelines
Applicants are required to submit:
- Synopsis: A concise overview of the novel (under 500 words).
- Manuscript Extract: The first 10,000 words of the novel.
Prizes
- First Prize: £1,000
- Five Finalists (Runners-up): £100 each

- Submission Deadline: January 31, 2027
